Volume 10 – Chartering Screens

This guide is intended to serve as an introduction to CompassAir (web version). It is one of a series that show the many useful features of CompassAir (web version).

Where it is felt that additional training would be beneficial, bespoke packages can be provided for both individual users as well as groups. Please contact solutions@thinkcompass.io for more information.

1      COMPASSAIR – MESSAGES WINDOW (HOME SCREEN)

CompassAir Home Screen

2      CHARTERING POSITIONS SCREEN

The Chartering Positions screen includes the following:

• Search form
• Results grid with List (previously Pocket) function (for how to use see for example the Ships Screen item 3)
• Details of the selected position
• Details of the message source

3      CHARTERING POSITIONS – “MESSAGE PREVIEW”

In the tab “Message Preview” users can preview the message from which was created the Positions record.

The (read only) “Received From” tab (see image above, next to Message Preview) displays the company or companies that sent the Chartering Position information. The scope of this is to evaluate whether or not the source is reliable.

4      ADDING A CHARTERING POSITION FROM A MESSAGE

To create a new Chartering Position whilst reading an email click on the plus sign on the top menu bar and select “Add Position” from the drop down menu or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+P. In both cases the Position details can then be added in a pop-up window.

5      DEALS SCREEN

Having searched for a deal the results are displayed once again in grid form. Right clicking on the search results grid reveals a menu from which various actions can be selected, for example to edit or delete existing Deals.

6      ADDING EN-BLOC SHIPS TO A DEAL USING THE “SHIPS” TAB

Users can use the “Ships” tab to add en-bloc ships to a Deal by right clicking in the grid, and selecting “Insert”.

7      FIXTURES SCREEN

The Fixtures screen includes a grid to display information related to the selected Fixture(s). Left clicking on an individual Fixture displays the Fixture details window together with related messages, files etc as well as allowing comments to be added related to a chosen Fixture.

By right clicking on an individual Fixture, the following options are available:

Select all: selects all the records on the page e.g 300 of 1500
Copy row, cell, selected, all: copies the selected data and then, for example, paste to Excel
Clear selection: clears the selected records
Add to List (previously pocket): adds the selected records to the List for further processing
Add all: adds all the records to the List
Add fixture: creates a new fixture
Edit Fixture: amends an existing fixture
Delete: deletes the fixture from the database
Open detached: opens in a new window a selected fixture
Open in list: the selected fixtures open in a new tab

8      RELATING FIXTURES TO MESSAGES

Fixtures can be related to Messages by first selecting the Message, then clicking on the Fixtures icon in the message detail pane. Searching for the Fixture can then be by any of either Ship name, name of Charterer or the Contractual Owner of the ship.

9      ADDING INFORMATION TO FIXTURES

Files can be added to a Fixture (using either drag and drop or insert file) and thereafter right clicking on the file to preview, download or attach the file to a new message.

On the “Notes” tab narrative can be added that relates to the selected Fixture.

The “Voyages” tab can be used to record information relating to COA Fixtures. It can also be used by brokers to add additional voyages under an existing SPOT contract. To do so, first select a Fixture, navigate to the “Voyages” tab and then right click, selecting “Insert” (this only applies to COA and SPOT fixtures). Information can then be added to the window that pops up. The window will already contain information in some fields since the Voyage is related to the parent Fixture record.

10      CHARTERING POSITIONS – CONFIRMATION OF PULSE GENERATED POSITIONS

For Chartering Position records that have been created automatically by our (AI) Pulse functionality, these need to be confirmed manually by users by means of the “Confirm” button having reviewed the data from Pulse. In the example below, it can easily be seen that the Position has been generated automatically by Pulse and has yet to be confirmed.

The words in a message that are used to create a Chartering Position using Pulse functionality, e.g (ship name, dwt, yob, port etc.) are highlighted in order that the user can easily check and confirm the record.
